Family Law/Divorce

In the emotionally charged landscape of divorce and family law disputes, our attorneys will guide you through the legal complexities with empathy and expertise.

The decision to divorce is usually just the first of several difficult decisions that involve children, finances, property, or all three. Litigation is not always the answer and is best viewed as a last resort.

Our goal is to resolve matters through negotiation and mediation whenever possible. Resolving custody, support, and property disputes outside of court can limit costs, both emotional and financial. We have experience helping families make decisions, reach agreements, and move forward. However, when reasonable agreements are not achievable, we are fierce advocates and prepared to litigate for a just resolution.

We represent clients on all issues related to divorce, including property division, custody, child support, visitation, spousal support, tracing of separate property, father’s rights, and paternity. In addition, we handle a range of family law matters, including prenuptial agreements and adoption contracts.

Walter J. McHugh has handled many high-profile divorce matters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Currently, he serves as Chair of the Domestic Relations Procedural Rules Committee, which advises the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on matters related to the procedural rules governing actions for divorce, support, custody, paternity, and protection from abuse. He holds the highest possible rating (AV) from the law firm research giant Martindale-Hubbell and has been named to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list annually since 2005. He also was selected to the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Trial Lawyers list twice.

Charles M. Gibbs is a diligent and aggressive attorney who excels in trial advocacy. He prides himself on zealous advocacy in domestic relations matters by listening to his client, gathering evidence, and ensuring that his client’s story is heard by the court. Whether it’s a negotiation or a full trial, Charles makes sure his clients know that he is in their corner. The Barristers Association of Philadelphia named him an Outstanding Young Lawyer in 2014 and in 2023 presented him with the J. Austin Norris Award, presented annually to an attorney with distinguished service to the legal profession and community at large. He has also been named twice to the City & State Law Power 100, a list of the most influential legal professionals in Pennsylvania. To keep his skills sharp, Charles is a member of the Family Law Inn of Court.
