Rape charges dropped against former GOP chair Robert Kerns

WHITPAIN — Rape and sexual assault charges were dismissed against former Montgomery County GOP chair Robert Kerns during his preliminary hearing Wednesday morning in Whitpain. Visiting Magisterial District Judge Joann L. Teyral, who presided in place of Judge Robert Sobeck, reviewed the transcript of the alleged victim’s testimony from a previous preliminary hearing Dec. 20, 2013. Six other charges, which include felony charges of aggravated indecent assault and misdemeanor charges of indecent assault without consent and simple assault have been held for trial.

With Robert Kerns at his side, defense attorney Brian McMonagle addressed media in attendance after the hearing.
